Top 5 Places to go This Summer Near O'Fallon, MO

Jon Fesmire | August 19, 2022 @ 12:00 AM

O’Fallon is a city of 91,000 residents near St. Louis, Missouri, and while you may be tempted to head over to St. Louis this summer for fun activities, we encourage you to see what our smaller city has to offer, too.

We’ve curated this list of five fun summer activities closer to home.

Fort Zumwalt Park

Is there a playground here for the kids? You bet! But Fort Zumwalt Park on Lake Whetsel is much more than a playground. This is a historic site with buildings and more to explore. The chief attraction is Fort Zumwalt, a fort used during the War of 1812. They rebuilt the current version based on the original. You’ll also get to check out Heald Home, a restored 1884 house.

Besides learning about O’Fallon’s history, you can have a picnic, play disc golf, explore the 48-acre park, or play on the playground. There’s even a path around the lake.

Note that the lake was drained, cleaned, refilled, and restocked in 2019. Fishing is not yet available, but if that interests you, keep an eye on the website in the coming years.

Fort Zumwalt Park features a series of events. These include Founders’ Day, which celebrates O’Fallon’s history, Old-Fashioned Holiday Stroll, a Christmas-time festival of lights, and hayrides throughout October.

River City Rascals

Enjoy local flobaseball? What’s that, you wonder? Flobaseball is college and youth league baseball, referred to as Frontier League. Locally, we have the River City Rascals. This team often plays at CarShield Field. If you’re curious about the Frontier League, check out videos of past games on the website.

Other teams in the league include the Slammers, Boomers, Titans, Miners, and Y’alls.

Going to a River City Rascals game is a chance to get outside and enjoy a sports event with family and friends. You’ll find the game dates on the website.

18 North Central

Head over to 18 North Central to play alternative sports and get some exercise with friends. Here, you can play tactical laser tag, cybersport demo ball, or participate in axe throwing.

The laser tag game features AR-15 laser rifles and Glock pistols featuring recoil and realistic sounds. Sign up for a 90-minute session and challenge your pals to a mock war. Cybersport Demo Ball is a team game with “elements of lacrosse, hockey, and bumper cars.” You’ll control a custom bumper car and score points by getting the puck in the other team’s goal.

The site also has a banquet hall, and you can sign up for a group party package for your family and friends or your company.

Links at Dardenne

Get out for a day of casual exercise playing golf at Links at Dardenne. This golf club bills itself as an affordable 18-hole public golf course with a private atmosphere. The course has gorgeous, green lawns and sparkling waters. It features a banquet hall for luncheons, family reunions, company retreats, and other social functions.

Up to 120 guests can attend an event indoors, and outdoor gatherings can have up to 150 guests.

Check out the site to learn about their offering and options. Here are a few. You can book a tee time on the site or even purchase an annual pass.

The Falls Golf Club

Whatever your golf skill level, you’re welcome to play at The Falls Golf Club. You can enjoy their 18-hole course and book tee times on their site. Want to improve your game? The Falls has PGA Golf professionals teaching golf techniques.

There’s a restaurant on site called The Creekside Grill, where you can get dine-in or takeout food, and the clubhouse seats 160 with a 3,000-square-foot patio. Site hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from March 15 through November 15.

The Falls also has special events, like couples golf, ladies league, and men’s club. Want to host an event? This is a lovely place for weddings, graduation parties, or corporate events.
